THE LAGAR: CENTENARY HISTORY THAT YOU CAN ENJOY NOW AS PART OF THE EXPERIENCE
The 18th-century wine press (1768) is one of the most special parts of the hotel. Its construction is a consequence of the boom that occurred in Spain during the reign of Charles III, thanks to the economic expansion that was experienced by the liberation of customs and increased revenue from maritime traffic between Spain-Europe and America.
Another proof of this, in the small hamlet of Aldeayuso, was the installation of the Crucero in the Plaza Mayor (1761), which edicts of Carlos III ordered their placement as “detentes” protective against the “malignant”, understanding as such in the Spain of the Enlightenment, the enemies of its inhabitants-farmers, as natural disasters, cloudy, hail, asurados and frosts out of cycle. Also the old church dating from the s. XIV (1354), built on a watchtower of the Castle of the Infante D. Juan Manuel de Peñafiel, benefited from the economic development of the Enlightenment as it was equipped with the Espadaña that Master Rojas de Palencia made in 1766.
THE LAGAR: BEFORE AND TODAY
The Lagar stopped being used in 1982, before the functionality of the new and modern wineries that under the protection of the D.O. Ribera de Duero proliferate since then. However, the wine press, the hidden side of the wine, has kept all its mechanism complete, being able to re-press in the vintages. In fact it is an activity that LAVIDA offers its clients, always under reservation and a minimum of 18 people in October.
